Cheliya Review and Rating
Release Date: April 07, 2017
Director: Mani Ratnam
Producer: Dil Raju
Music Director: A. R. Rahman
Starring: Karthi, Shraddha Srinath , Aditi Rao Hydari
The movie’s story revolves around a fighter plane pilot Varun (Karthi) and a doctor Leela (Aditi Rao Hydari). They have contrastingly different characters, yet find themselves attracted. The hero appears strong outside, but softer inside, while the heroine is fragile outside, but headstrong inside. Hero will be captured by pakistan soldiers and sent to Rawalpindi jail. The remaining story will be how he escapes from the jail and the how he will meet his love.
Maniratnam has made magic with stunning visuals and locations. Cinematographer Ravi Varman has captured the beauty of Srinagar very well with his camera. Karthi and Aditi Rao has made stunning performances and became the backbone of the movie, But slow paced narration makes audience uncomfortable. The first half of the movie moves a bit fast whereas the second half is dragged. The movie has more slow paced romantic scenes. Karthi had acted as a Pilot Officer and his clean shave and slim body adds more beauty to the movie.
Cheliya is the most expensive film ever made by Maniratnam’s home production banner, Madras Talkies. The director also went abroad to shoot for the film for the very first time in his illustrious career. The Oscar winning music scorer AR Rahman has composed music for Cheliya and it’s songs have received positive feedback from music lovers. Karthi’s stylish look in the movie is nice to see and his chemistry with Aditi Rao Hydari is a perfect match. All the rest of the actors have done justice to their roles.
