Pulimurugan (Manyam Puli) is a 2016 Indian Malayalam-language action adventure film directed by Vysakh, starring Mohanlal in the titular role, and co-stars Kamalini Mukherjee, Jagapati Babu, Bala, Lal, and Vinu Mohan. It is the first independent screenplay by Udayakrishna of the Udayakrishna and Siby K. Thomas duo. The film is produced by Tomichan Mulakuppadam of Mulakuppadam Films. The score and soundtrack are composed by Gopi Sunder, while cinematography is handled by Shaji Kumar.

The filming started in Hanoi, Vietnam in July 2015. The film was released on 7 October 2016. Made on an investment of ?25 crore, Pulimurugan grossed over ?125 crore worldwide. It became the first film to cross ?100 crore mark in the Malayalam film industry, and is currently the highest-grossing Malayalam film. The film was dubbed and released in Telugu as Manyam Puli on 2 December 2016.


Manyam Puli Story begins with the childhood days of Kumar (Mohanal), who’s mother dies after giving birth to his brother Manikuttan (Vinu Mohan), and he is left with his brother, father (Santhosh Keezhattoor) and uncle Balaraman (Lal). Few day after his mother’s death, he loses his father too in a tiger attack, while they were escaping from the police for illegally cutting logs in the woods. Kumar in vengeance traps the predator with the help of Balaraman and kills it.He soon becomes the saviour for Puliyur natives, who fear frequent tiger attacks in the village.

After many years, Murugan is now a lorry driver by profession, he has a homemaker wife, Myna (Kamalini Mukherjee) and a daughter, Chakki (Baby Durga Premjith). He is an active rogue tiger hunter in Puliyoor, whenever it endangers the village. Apart from the fighting sequences with the tigers/leopards, the movie also narrates Kumar’s (Mohanlal) family moments in the backdrop of a revenge story.
